Blissful Planning | Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

Although I am what some long-timers may call a “Novice” to the Wedding Industry, being a Professional Wedding Planner for the past 6 years has really made me understand  the important role I play in my Brides’ life.  Not only am I hired to plan, coordinate, & direct the wedding, I am a.k.a. {also known as} a trusted confidant, liaison between the wedding party, family & friends, and also a Wedding Day Logistics Analyst.  However, My ultimate goal is to make sure my Bride & Groom walk down the aisle stress free and in their OWN unique style.


There is no such thing as a right & wrong when it comes to finding your wedding planner; There is only a fit and no fit.  The same way each Bride is unique in style & personality; Planners differ in technique & character.  It is important to find a Wedding Planner that compliments YOUR personal style.  Your Planner will ride with you along your wedding journey for months, make sure you choose wisely.  Not just someone who was recommended by a family friend {although that has it perks} but definitely someone who meshes well with you and your Groom.  She/he will be your right & left hand when everyone else is too busy.

Planners/ Coordinators will offer multiple packages to accommodate your style & budget.  Are you looking for a Wedding Planner to plan & direct your entire wedding because you just don’t have the time?  That’s available!  Are you looking for a Wedding Planner to take over the details you’ve already started because NOW the tasks are becoming unbearable? That’s available!  Have you planned your entire wedding {Hat’s off to you!} and now you need a professional to step in a month before your wedding to help put your plans into perspective & direct the flow on your wedding day?  That’s available!  Do you want to plan your entire wedding yourself, have your sister or cousin coordinate & direct your wedding day, but you absolutely MUST have the assistance and sounding board of a wedding planner for creative inspiration & vendor knowledge when things get rocky? That’s available too!  Whatever you require, is fine with us!  We will tailor-fit a package JUST FOR YOU!

Here are a few common reasons why couples choose to NOT hire a Wedding Planner/ Coordinator and how YOU can overcome these obstacles.

The #1 Reason couples choose not to hire a Professional Planner is because…They can’t afford one! I here this all the time and my answer remains the same.  Yes you can!  Every bride is on a budget.  Although some budgets having thicker cushions than others both are sacrificing money for time, experience, and the ability to be stress-free!  Just like hiring a baker, a DJ, & a florist is important for your wedding, a Wedding Planner is equally significant.  The difference in hiring a professional and not is that, as Professional Wedding Planners, we meet and develop rapports with these bakers, florists, and DJ’s just for you!  This can typically cut your costs on fees because you are now getting them at a discounted rate, thus, leaving you with a cushion to hire your Planner.

The #2 reason couples choose not to hire a Professional Planner is because…They will have a family member or friend help plan and facilitate the day.  Firstly, once you solicit the help of your family and friends, your wedding will no longer be YOUR wedding.  It will be a family wedding.  Everyone will have a say about what you should and shouldn’t do or incorporate for your “Big Day”.  A Professional will stand as a referee between you & your biggest ideas to help make sure your budget and style isn’t compromised.  Secondly, they are not Professional Planners with Professional Staff, so they will not be able to enjoy your day while working behind the scenes.  This means, they should not be enjoying drinks at cocktail hour.  One should be with you while you are getting dressed {making sure you and your maids are on time with hair & make-up}; Fixing your train before you walk down the aisle; With you while you are taking pictures {making sure you stay on schedule}, one should be making sure the reception location is set-up according to your wishes, and the other should be with the guests at cocktail hour { but making sure the hors d’oeuvres are passed on time and the drinks are flowing}; and everything in between.  At the end of the night, your enthusiastic friends & family will be so upset they missed the one moment you graduated to becoming a wife.

The #3 reason couples choose not to hire a professional Wedding Planner/ Coordinator is because…The venue is providing one for you.  FYI, a Wedding Planner at your venue, although extremely helpful & relevant, does not constitute as a Personal Wedding Planner.  Their job is to make sure their facility accommodates and runs smoothly on the day of your wedding.

If, after you’ve decided to overcome your fear and would like to interview for YOUR qualified Wedding Planner/Consultant, you should highly consider the following questions:

  • How are they charging for their services? {Are they charging by flat fee, by the hour, or a percentage of the wedding budget?}
  • How much time do they have to give YOUR wedding the attention it deserves?  Do they book other events around the day of your wedding? {This will determine how much time before your wedding day they have to dedicate to last minute details}
  • How often are they available to you? {Make sure they are available to you for last-minute emergencies or emotional melt-downs that may affect you on your wedding day}
  • Do they belong to any professional organizations? {This will determine if they are staying true to their passion by learning & going the extra mile to develop their craft}

Outside of all the timelines, budgets, and lists a wedding necessitates, planning your “Big Day” is supposed to be the most enjoyable time of your life.  I’ve heard many Brides’ wish the day would hurry up and pass.  That’s because they not only took on the myriad of details involved in planning their wedding, but because they were indulged in the stresses of family, friends, & enthusiasts who had their own ideas for her day.  It is the job of the Wedding Planner to leave you worry-free & able to focus on what really matters on your special day, YOU.  My Professional advice is to sit back, find a wedding planner {or consultant} & indulge in the sweetness of having “Your Cake & Eat it Too!” After all, it is YOUR day, so it should be YOUR way!
