Wedding Cake Wednesday | Classic or Modern?

What better way to use my love for cakes on my blog than by launching Wedding Cake Wednesday! That means, every Wednesday, I will box-up a different cake with information to help choose the sweet treat and select the best vendors that will compliment your style. One thing that tickles-my-fancy is when I hear “it’s just a cake!” FTI {For Their Information} it is so much more than that. Next to the Wedding Dress, the cake will also leave the guests talking wayyy after your wedding has ended. It should definitely cause a WOW factor! It is just true to fact, people remember the dress and the cake, so you should make both memorable & a reflection of YOU.

Your wedding cake should be symbolic of your & your grooms wedding style. Are you a Classic Couple {with the traditional round, white cake, accented with touches of floral}? or are you a Modern Couple {using colors in your wedding cake to match the color scheme or theme of your wedding}? Today’s Modern Bride aren’t just Modern, they are edgy and definitely wanting to have their Cake & Eat it Too! They upcakes, and individual mini cakes. The extra Modern Brides are using Table Cakes {small wedding cakes to serve each of the guests at their table}, Pies, and even cakes with guess what, NO ICING! Talk about ways to Kut the Kalories! Some brides are using Cake Pops {cake on a stick} and even bottling their cake in a mason jar to go! Your possibilities are endless!

Here are some sweet terms you will need to know when planning your wedding or just want to indulge in a little layered fun!

  • Rolled Fondant~ is an icing that resembles a dough-like consistency and gives your cake a smooth and clean finish.
  • Buttercream {My fave & typically used for cakes of all ocassions} ~ is a creamy icing that stays soft which helps ease cake-cutting time. It can be colored, flavoured, used as a filling with fresh fruit.
  • Whipped Cream ~ is heavy cream that tastes great as a filling with mixed fruits.
  • Ganache ~ A rich and sweet chocolate {lighter than fudge} used to fill and cover cakes {Yummy}.
  • Gum Paste ~ A very sweet and edible sugar dough used to make realistic flowers, fruits, and other garnishments for cakes.
  • Royal Icing ~ Much like gum paste, it is used to make decorations such as flowers and figuerines. Royal Icing is piped into shapes and hardened on a non-stick surfaces.
  • Marzipan ~ made from almonds, egg whites, and sugar used to create imitation fruits and vegetables. It can also be rolled into this sheets and glazed for cakes
  • Molded Chocolate ~ chocolate or white chocolate that can be melted down and reshaped to cover a cake or make garnishments.
